BAR HARBOR, Maine — Two people are in custody after they were arrested in separate police chases on Sunday afternoon.

According to dispatchers at the Bar Harbor Police Department, the first chase started at about 1:59 p.m. when Officer Eric McLaughlin observed William Delaittre, 19, of Bar Harbor, driving an ATV on Crooked Road. Delaittre allegedly refused to stop for the officer and a chase ensued. McLaughlin eventually stopped the ATV and arrested Delaittre. He was arrested and charged with eluding a police officer and also was issued a summons for violating conditions of release.

Just 18 minutes later, Officer Dustin Tierney attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling south on Route 3 that ran through the stop sign at the head of the island and continued down Route 102. According to the reports, the driver, Mechele Brown, 45, of Rockland refused to stop even after Tierney activated his lights and siren. The chase continued down Route 102 and Brown eventually stopped.

Brown was arrested and charged with eluding an officer and issued a summons for violating conditions of release.

Both Delaittre and Brown were taken to the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth where they remained in custody Sunday evening.
