Governor touts cooperative approach with businesses

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage says the state Department of Environmental Protection is building a culture of cooperation with businesses.

In his weekly radio address Saturday, the governor says the DEP is committed to improving turnaround times when reviewing projects and has restructured its Office of Innovation and Assistance t o help businesses navigate the permitting process. He also says the agency’s small-business ombudsman will be meeting with business owners to discuss their concerns.

In the weekly Democratic radio address, Sen. Justin Alfond said he’s been disappointed and embarrassed by what he calls “distractions” coming from LePage’s office — from attacking the NAACP to  taking down a labor history mural at the Labor Department. Alfond said none of those things fulfill the governor’s promises of creating jobs and “people before politics.”
