Rabbitt pitches Colby past UM-Farmington

WATERVILLE — Colby College first-year pitcher Dakota Rabbitt allowed no earned runs and just one hit over five innings in grabbing his first collegiate win as the Mules topped the University of Maine at Farmington 9-2 in a college baseball game Wednesday afternoon.

Richard Newton hit a three-run double in the fifth inning and added a single to lead the Mules’ offense. Robb Andt doubled and singled and Nate Ellis hit two singles.

Alex Goldrup doubled, singled and scored a run for the Beavers. Connor McNeill and Dale Winchenbach drove in runs on sacrifice flies.

At Standish, Alex Lorenc hit a one-out single to centerfield, scoring Nate Martin from second base to power Saint Joseph’s College to an 11-inning victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Martin homered, singled, drove in two runs and scored two runs to lead the Monks. Mike Pratt had a double and two singles. Ian Lee singled twice and Dan Brown doubled with an RBI.

Andrew Devereaux pitched three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed no runs, one hit and no walks while striking out two.

Connor Reinfurt led the Beacons with a home run, two singles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Kapulka singled twice and drove in two runs. Ryan Walsh doubled and singled.

At Bridgewater, Mass., junior Ian Williams singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Bridgewater State University past the University of Southern Maine.

Joshua Ferriera hit a double, three singles and scored three runs for the Bears. Dave Billotte added a double, two singles and two RBIs.

Chris Bernard tripled, doubled and singled with two RBIs to pace the Huskies. Tucker White doubled and singled with an RBI and Josh Mackey singled twice.

At Bangor, Katie Griffin scored three first-half goals and four other players added two goals as Colby College of Waterville cruised to victory over Husson University.

Claire Donegan, Alex Mintz, Ali Iannotti and Kirsten Karis each scored two goals for 6-1 Colby. Sarah Lux and Katherine Eddy both had a goal and an assist while Casey Thomas, Lindsey McKenna and Anne Geraghty also scored.

Michelle Burt and Sarah Warnke combined to save two of five shots.

Megan Clement scored two goals for the 3-3 Eagles while Kim Gambon scored an unassisted goal in the first. Caitlyn Stauffer provided an assist. Kaleigh Morneau saved nine of 25 shots.
