After car, foot chase, wanted felon arrested in taxi

By Heather Steeves, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — Maine State Trooper Scott Quintero tried to stop a car for a routine traffic violation last Sunday evening when he realized a wanted felon was in the driver’s seat.

Michel D’Angelo, 32, of Acton sped off, going more than 85 miles an hour on Rockland’s back roads, according to Quintero. After a brief chase, the man ditched the car on High Street downtown and then he and the two women riding with him jumped out and started running.

Quintero lost sight of the trio when they ran off.

By this time, Rockland Police and the Maine State Warden’s Service were on their way to assist.

Around five minutes passed before Quintero spotted the trio again. He was waiting at an intersection downtown when all of a sudden he noticed D’Angelo sitting in the back of a taxi with the women.

“They happened to drive right in front of me,” he said Wednesday.

He pulled the cab over and pulled out his gun, demanding the felon get out.

“He is very dangerous,” Quintero said, explaining that D’Angelo was wanted for violent crimes.

D’Angelo was arrested and brought to Knox County Jail where he is being held without bail.

Jail staff listed his charges as refusing to submit to arrest, refusing to stop, operating with a suspended or revoked  license, failing to give correct name, trafficking dangerous knives, false plates, aggravated assault, tampering with a witness, trafficking dangerous weapons, fugitive from justice, eluding an officer and driving to endanger.

One of the women was identified as D’Angelo’s girlfriend, Jennica Miller, 19, of Friendship. She was arrested and brought to Knox County Jail for outstanding warrants too. Miller paid her $1,000 cash bail Tuesday. Jail staff listed her charges as trafficking dangerous knives, operating with a revoked license and hindering prosecution. Quintero said he found marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Miller and charged her for those crimes as well.

The other female was not arrested.
