Apple tree pruning at Nearing Homestead open to volunteers

HARBORSIDE, Maine — Volunteers are invited to join the annual apple tree pruning at Nearing Homestead from 12:30 to 3 p.m.Sunday, April 3, at Forest Farm Homestead on Cape Rosier in Brooksville.  Volunteers are advised to bring their own bypass pruners. For information, call 236-6855.

MMA to present findings of 2007 ship accident investigation

CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy will present the National Transportation Safety Board’s marine accident investigators findings at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Harborview Room of the college’s Harold Alfond Student Center. The NTSB board’s presentation will be on the post-investigation findings of the May 2007 marine accident involving the Empress of the North, a 360-foot riverboat-style cruise ship that ran aground off the coast of Alaska.
