Several women’s groups are hosting a “Financial Fitness for Women” conference in Bangor on Saturday, April 2.

Coordinated by the Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community, the Tuesday Forum, the Zonta Club of Bangor and the National Association of Women Business Owners, the conference is for women of all ages who are employed, self-employed, at-home or students.

The Greater Bangor Ambassador Club handled the fundraising and got sponsors and presenters for the conference, including keynote speaker, Marion Syversen, financial consultant and author.

There are 12 workshops with topics ranging from credit to investing to Family Development Accounts, a government-based savings program for low-income women. There will be workshops on home ownership and a workshop on the value of education.

The day also will have booths from agencies, banks and other financial institutions there with representatives ready to answer questions. The event is free, and lunch may be bought on-site.

The conference will be held at Eastport Hall on Texas Avenue at the University of Maine-Augusta’s Bangor Campus (formerly known as University College) from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Preregistration is not required. Any questions can be directed to Jane Searles at 262-7843.
