MACHIAS, Maine — Teachers from all over Washington County gathered Saturday morning at the Schoodic Symposium granite sculpture on the University of Maine at Machias campus for a daylong tour of the various sculptures on the symposium trail.

They were set to tour quarries in Jonesport and Franklin and, along with their counterparts in Hancock County, attend workshops at Winter Harbor to link the process of rock sculpting to classroom lessons. The teachers will be using the concepts in art, mathematics, geology and science classes.

Three additional sculptures will be installed this year in Addison, Eastport and Roque Bluffs.
