Penquis teams with Borders to boost child literacy


BANGOR, Maine — Penquis will partner with Borders Books for a charity drive through April 30 at Bangor Mall Boulevard. Customers at Borders can donate a book or stuffed bunny at the register to be distributed to children who otherwise have no means to purchase new books. Book contributions will also support literacy programs through Penquis. For more information, call 973-3558.

Annual Simpson Lecture slated at UMaine

ORONO, Maine — The 10th annual Geddes W. Simpson Lecture will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the McIntire Room of the Buchanan Alumni House on the UMaine campus. A lecture by Elizabeth S. Bast, granddaughter of professor Simpson, will take place at 2 p.m. and Joseph P. Kelley, chair and professor of earth sciences at UMaine, will speak at 3:15 p.m. The Simpson lecturer award is given annually in April to an individual who has provided significant insight into the area where science and history intersect. Bangor High School to hold annual talent show

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor High School senior class members are holding their annual talent show at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1, in Peakes Auditorium at the school on Broadway. Proceeds benefit school graduation expenses. Tickets are $7 and are on sale in the BHS office. For more information, call 992-5500.
