BANGOR, Maine — Pierre Bardon, a well-known French organist, will perform a free concert on the 19th century E. & G.G. Hook organ at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St.

The concert is sponsored by the St. John’s Organ Society.

Bardon will perform the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his French contemporaries — Jean-Adam Guilain, Pierre Du Mage and Nicolas De Grigny.

In January, Bardon celebrated his 50th anniversary as the organist at the St. Mary Magadalene Basilica in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte Baume in Provence, France.

Bardon is known worldwide as one of the great interpreters of French organ music, according to Kevin Birch, music director and organist for St. John’s.

Bardon has toured in Europe, Asia and North America and has received the Grand Prix du Disque, the highest award in France for a recording.
