Wisconsin-Stevens Point tops USM baseball

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Justin Jirschele had two doubles and five RBIs as third-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point downed Southern Maine 12-4 Thursday in college baseball action.

Max Mittelstaedt added three hits and three RBIs while Eric Fritz singled three times for the winners.

Chris Bernard had an RBI double and Jordan Berthiaume an RBI single for the Huskies.

USM drops two

At Auburndale, Fla., the University of Southern Maine’s Florida trip ended with two losses, as the Huskies fell to Buffalo State 12-2 and Elmhurst 7-2.

In the first game, the Tigers pounded out 13 hits, led by Sam Strapason’s double, triple, two singles and four RBIs.

Katie Davis and Sarah Deroche each drove in a run for the Huskies.

In the second game, Katie Hurby paced Elmhurst with a two-run double as six errors plagued USM.

Davis had two doubles and an RBI to lead USM.
