Kick Butts Day planned at Nokomis


NEWPORT — The Nokomis Youth Awareness Program will take part in Kick Butts Day at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Nokomis Regional High School, 266 Williams St. in Newport. Sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Kick Butts Day is an annual celebration of youth leadership and activism in the fight against tobacco use. For more information, call 660 5877.

Spring Gala to benefit Spruce Run

ORONO — The Spruce Run Association, domestic violence project, hosts the annual Spring Gala fundraiser 7-9 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at UMaine’s Buchanan Alumni House in Orono. The event includes great food, silent auction and bluegrass music. Tickets are $15 at the door or call 945-5102.

Shirley church to offer Maple Syrup Brunch

SHIRLEY — The Shirley Community Church will host the 15th annual Maple Syrup Brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the Shirley Town Hall. After brunch, guests are invited to visit Charlie Baker’s Sugar House. Proceeds benefit the Shirley Community Church.

‘Art in Bloom’ part of Bangor’s Garden Show

BANGOR — “Art In Bloom” will be presented by Valley Arts Alliance in conjunction with the Penobscot District Federated Garden Clubs at Bangor’s Garden Show from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 8-9, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 10. Valley Arts Alliance was established in 2004 as a group of artists and supporters of the arts in the Sebasticook Valley area. There are more than 30 members and supporters.
