Cross Insurance buys Mass. firm

Bangor-based Cross Insurance has bought Mazonson LLC, an insurance brokerage firm in Wakefield, Mass.

The Wakefield location will become a satellite office of Cross, to be called Cross Insurance Wakefield. The 75-year-old insurance brokerage has 34 employees, and will be represent a significant expansion into Massachusetts by Cross.

“Expanding our presence in Massachusetts was important to us, but choosing the right firm to do so was paramount,” said Royce Cross, president of Cross Insurance, in a Tuesday release.

Cross has more than 400 employees and is one of the largest insurance firms in New England, with 34 satellite offices, 14 of them in Maine.

Both firms are privately held, and the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
