Guilford to vote on proposed municipal budget

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

GUILFORD, Maine — A proposed 2011 municipal budget of $1,073,600 will be decided by residents at the annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Piscataquis Community Elementary School.

The budget reflects about a $17,500 increase over the 2010 budget. With county costs, which increased by 3.5 percent this year, and an estimated school expenditure of $1.05 million, the town will need to raise a total of $2.4 million, according to Town Manager Tom Goulette.

The taxation budget will increase by about 3.8 percent since less is being used from surplus to help offset the tax commitment.

Residents will elect a selectman, two trustees for the Guilford-Sangerville Sanitary District, two SAD 4 directors, two Hospital Administrative District 4 directors, and three trustees of the Guilford Memorial Library.

Among the 27-article warrant, residents will act on a moratorium ordinance governing adult businesses as proposed by the planning board.
