LAKEVIEW PLANTATION, Maine — Game wardens searched Schoodic Lake from the ice and air Thursday morning after a camp owner reported that someone may have fallen through the ice.

The caller, whose camp sits on a ridge overlooking the lake off Russell Road, told wardens he thought he saw a person standing on the ice. When he went to retrieve his binoculars and looked again, the person was gone. He assumed the person had fallen through the ice, according to Warden Sgt. Bill Chandler.

Chandler and Wardens Dan Carroll and Glen Annis of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife responded to the call and searched the lake. Warden Pilot Charlie Later also searched from the air, Chandler said Thursday. The wardens found no tracks in the fresh snow that led to the area where the person reportedly was seen. Chandler said Later observed some open spots on the lake but those appeared to have been frozen over.
