Someone driving through the Broadway Shopping Center in Bangor on Wednesday afternoon saw two people who appeared to be shooting up drugs in a car that had a child in the back seat and called police, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday.

Officers Joe Baillargeon and Mike Brennan arrived in the parking lot at around 4:45 p.m. and found April Field, 28, of Old Town and Brent Hawkes, 28, of Bangor in a parked vehicle along with Field’s child, age unknown.

Both denied doing drugs, but when police searched the car they found a variety of prescription pills and hypodermic needles, the sergeant said.

“This car was just filled with pills, capsules, needles and stuff,” Edwards said. “It’s horrific the amount of pills that were there.”

Hawkes was arrested and charged with two counts of drug possession and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He was later released, Edwards said. Field was charged with the sale and use of drug paraphernalia. She was not arrested. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
