MOFGA to hold business management seminar in Belfast

UNITY, Maine — The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host 2011 Knowledge Transfer Alliance, a free business management seminar at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave. (Route 3), Belfast.

The seminar will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 26. Topics will include:

  1. Setting your vision and sticking to it.
  2. Marketing your business.
  3. Time management 101.
  4. Using Internet marketing and social networking.
  5. Quickbooks introduction.
  6. Building your budget and record keeping in Excel
  7. Quickbooks specific topics.

Participants should bring their own lunch. Coffee and snacks will be provided. Registration is not required, but e-mail aaron.hoshide@umit.maine.edu to ensure a seat.

DAMARISCOTTA, Maine — The Damariscotta Planning Advisory Committee, or DPAC, cafe conversation with consultant, Paul Dreher, is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main St. DPAC wants community ideas on reviewing and rewriting town codes. MACHIAS, Maine – The University of Maine at Machias will give job seekers and prospective employers a chance to meet when it hosts the annual Machias Area Job Fair 12:30 – 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23,  in the Reynolds Center Gymnasium. The event is sponsored by UMM, the Machias CareerCenter-Maine Department of Labor and the Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.

Representatives from graduate programs at the University of Maine and Husson University  also will be on hand to discuss graduate school options. A graduate school presentation will take place 4–5 p.m. in the Murdock Conference Room.

Door prizes will be raffled off throughout the afternoon.

MACHIAS, Maine – SuprTEK, The Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance and 15 other businesses are teaming up for the inaugural countywide canned food drive during April and May.

The goal is to collect 6,000 cans of food and $6,000. The canned goods will increase the availability of food at the pantries. Money will help people purchase items they still need.

The canned goods and money will be divided among the 12 food pantries in Washington County. SuprTEK is matching $1 for every can its employees collect. Monetary donations can be mailed to SuprTEK at P.O. Box 629,  East Machias, ME 04630. They also can be made online at www.foodandfuel.org.

The Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a kick-off event 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday,  April 6, at SuprTEK on Route One in East Machias.

ELLSWORTH, Maine – The Ellsworth AFS Chapter of AFS Intercultural Programs will host its annual AFS Benefit Auction beginning with a preview from 9 to 10 a.m. and auction at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in the Ellsworth High School Cafe.

Mike Povich will be the auctioneer. The auction helps raise funds for scholarships for outgoing Ellsworth students and with their expenses.

SULLIVAN, Maine – The annual Bi-County Early Care and Education Conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.  Saturday, April 9, at  Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan.

The conference is sponsored by Child Care Opportunities Resource Development Center and a coalition of area agencies, providers, and parents. The mission of the coalition is to foster cooperation among agencies and individuals who work with young children and to facilitate supportive relationships among parents, public school teachers and early childhood educators.
