Southern Maine baseball sweeps Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Mike Eaton posted four singles, two doubles, two triples and nine RBIs as the University of Southern Maine swept a pair of weekend games with Farmingdale State.

The Huskies defeated the Rams 14-5 on Saturday and 11-2 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, Eaton knocked in four runs for Southern Maine on a triple and a double. Josh Mackey had two triples, a double and two RBIs while Nick Grady added a home run, a triple and two RBIs.

In Sunday’s game, Eaton registered four singles, a triple, a double and five RBIs for the Huskies. Mackey tallied three singles and three RBIs while Forrest Chadwick added two doubles, a single and an RBI.

At Winter Park, Fla., Troy Black registered a double, two singles and three RBIs to lead the University of Maine by Rollins College in the championship game of the Rollins College Baseball Week tournament Saturday.

Joey Martin and Tyler Patzalek each had two singles and an RBI for the Black Bears. Micheal Fransoso hit an RBI double while Pat Thibodeau doubled and singled. Taylor Lewis chipped in with an RBI single.

Bates, Berry split

At Rome, Ga., the Bates College baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday, defeating Berry College 3-1 in the first game before dropping the second game 15-2.

In the first game, Jake Simon led the Bobcats with a double, an RBI single and a run scored. Ryan Sonberg chipped in with a triple and a run. Mike Antonellis earned the win allowing just one unearned run in five innings.

In the second game, Berry erupted with seven runs in the second inning en route to the win.

Griff Tewksbury hit two singles to pace Bates.

At Orono, Casey McCloskey allowed just one hit through four innings and hit a three-run home run as Maine Maritime Academy topped Fisher College in five innings Saturday.

Mallery Stanley hit a three-run double for the Mariners. Brittany Hunt hit a two-run single while Leah Jackson and Shelby Bassett each had an RBI double.

Maine drops two of three

At Raleigh, N.C., the University of Maine softball team dropped two of its three weekend game in North Carolina.

On Saturday, the Black Bears lost to North Carolina State 3-2. On Sunday, Maine defeated Fairfield University 7-6 before losing to James Madison University 11-4.

In Saturday’s game, Landon Warren hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to propel the Wolfpack.

Jennifer Eberhardt and Lindsey Jenkins each singled for the Black Bears.

In Sunday’s first game, Eberhardt hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to tally the winning run for Maine. Kristen Allen hit a three-run home run while Kali Burnham added a home run and a single.

In Sunday’s second game, James Madison erupted with eight runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.

Terren Hall posted a home run and a double with three RBIs for the Black Bears. Eberhardt hit a solo home run while Burnham chipped in with a triple.
