AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine’s new education commissioner is going on a “listening tour” to visit schools and meet with educators and parents across the state.

Stephen Bowen says he wants to hear how things are going in schools, what the Education Department can do better and how schools can improve. He plans to visit each of the state’s nine superintendent regions during his first 100 days on the job, with each visit including a meeting with a superintendent, stops at schools and a public forum.

His tour begins Tuesday in Greene and Turner. He’ll be in Bangor next Thursday and in Ellsworth and Sullivan a week from Monday.

Additional tour dates will be announced later. printed on August 19, 2017
