There’s a snappy comeback to folks who greet you with a “Nice to see you!”’ Pipe back,  “It’s nice to be seen!”

When you’re riding a bicycle at night it’s really nice to be seen.

Enter the BikeGlow Safety Light, 10 feet of flexible electroluminescent light tube featuring eight available colors that you wrap around your bike’s frame, thus making it visible from any side angle. You may choose among steady, slow flashing and rapid flashing.

Powered by two AA batteries, this waterproof unit barely tips the scales at 2 ounces (3.4 ounces with batteries) and comes with a hook and loop strap to attach the 3½-by-1¼-inch power unit anywhere on your bike. Once you fasten the battery pack to the frame and wrap the 10 feet of tubing around it, you’re in the business of being seen.

According to the company’s website, “The Bike Glow Safety Light was the brainstorm of cycling enthusiasts in the bicycling mecca of Santa Cruz, Cal. They saw the need for bikes to be lit up, especially from the side, during darker hours. … In 2008 the 2-AA battery (Original) BikeGlow Safety Light was put into production.”

Today the lighting unit comes in eight colors:aqua, blue, green, pink, purple, red, yellow and white. Hit the on button once and you’ll get 50 hours of steady light. Hit the button two or three times and you’ll get 120 hours of flashing light.

When you receive your unit you’ll have to provide and install two AA batteries. Two small Phillips-head screws hold the cover on the battery compartment. Remove them carefully, install the batteries, and reinstall the screws to secure the cover.
