BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who shoved a security officer and then quickly fled the Target store on Longview Drive after he was videotaped stealing several DVDs from the store.

Sgt. Paul Edwards said the man is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and between the ages of 35 and 50.  The theft took place at 4 p.m. Sunday, and by the time Officer Jamie Fanning responded, the man was gone.

When Fanning arrived on the scene, he learned from the store’s security officer that the shoplifter had been seen on surveillance cameras placing both Blue Ray and regular DVD’s in his shopping cart.  According to Edwards, as the man continued to shop he took the DVD’s from his cart and furtively placed them in his jacket. Afterward, Edwards said, the man attempted to leave the store.

At that point, the security officer approached the man and confronted him. The man denied stealing the DVDs, and after a brief scuffle with security, he managed to flee the scene in a green Jeep Cherokee.

Store employees said the man was missing several  teeth.

Anyone with information on the shoplifter is encouraged to call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. Those who wish to remain anonymous may press 6 and leave a message on the tip line.
