Harbor House basketball tourney seeks volunteers

One of the state’s biggest undergraduate high basketball tournaments is set for March 18-20 when the Harbor House Community Service Center hosts the 19th annual Great Harbor House Shootout on Mount Desert Island.

What began in 1992 with seven boys’ teams of junior high school-aged players has now grown into what is described as “Maine’s premier post-season basketball tournament,” with 75 teams expected to participate in four divisions of play for girls and boys.

Division games are played in five locations: the YMCA in Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Elementary School, Trenton Consolidated School, Southwest Harbor’s Pemetic Elementary School and the Ellsworth Middle School gymnasium.

Harbor House seeks volunteers to help with the weekend’s events. For additional information, contact Scott Phelps, Harbor House sports director, at 244-3713, Ext. 104, or Diana Novella, event manager, at Ext. 102.
