Little League registration scheduled in Brewer

BREWER, Maine — Brewer Little League has announced registration for the 2011 baseball season. The league is open to all Brewer residents who will be at least age 7 but not older than 16 on April 30.

Registration is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 21, Tuesday, March 22, and Wednesday, March 23, at the Brewer High school cafeteria. For information, call Tyler Smith at 557-9614 or visit

Literacy Volunteers of Bangor offers training program for volunteers

BANGOR, Maine — English language tutors are needed by Literacy Volunteers of Bangor.  An English Language Learner Tutor Training program will be offered 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 28 through April 27, at United Technologies Center, 200 Hogan Road in Bangor.

The 18-hour course will provide an overview of second language acquisition skills, understanding and working with cultural differences, teaching strategies and lesson planning.

Bangor Reads to present biologist’s program on mockingbirds

BANGOR, Maine — In conjunction with the Bangor Reads group’s focus on “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, the Bangor Public Library and wildlife biologist Ron Joseph will present a program focused on mockingbirds at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the library.

Children invited to ‘Book Blast’ at Bangor Mall

BANGOR, Maine — The Simon Kidgits Club “Book Blast” at the Bangor Mall will promote reading and learning at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in the J.C. Penney Court.
