Maine heating oil price jumps 13 cents

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — The average price for home heating oil in Maine surged to $3.65 a gallon, up 13 cents from last week.

John Kerry, director of the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security, said Monday that unrest in Libya and tensions elsewhere in the Middle East have affected supply and demand around the world.

A weekly survey showed eastern and northern Maine had the highest price for heating oil at $3.73 per gallon; central Maine had the lowest price of $3.48 per gallon.

Kerry says Maine families should prepare for higher energy costs and look for ways to reduce heating oil use in their homes and buildings.
