Brewer man accused of taking out anger on couple’s truck with tire iron

Posted March 03, 2011, at 10:33 p.m.

A Brewer man was arrested and charged with domestic assault on Thursday after reportedly fighting with his wife over the couple’s marital status, according to Brewer police Sgt. David Lord.

But his aggression was not directed at his wife. Lord said that when Officers Peter Rancourt and Amy Nickerson arrived at couple’s South Main Street home around 3 p.m., the wife of Charles Badger, 36, directed their attention to the couple’s truck.

Upon examination, Lord said, the officers noticed what was described in the police report as “a moderate-sized gouge” on the outside of the truck’s bed.

Badger’s wife told police he grew irate after an argument about the couple’s marriage and he went outside, apparently in search of an object to wield against a truck the couple share.

Badger then allegedly began swinging at the bed of the truck repeatedly with a tire iron, which eventually caused what Officers Rancourt and Nickerson estimated to be $500 in damage to the truck.  Lord said that because Badger chose to vent his anger in this way, officers arrested him on a domestic assault charge and took him to the Penobscot County Jail.
