Knights double up Black Bears


ORLANDO, Fla. — Brian Adkins allowed just two earned runs through six innings in leading the University of Central Florida past the University of Maine baseball team 6-3 Wednesday afternoon.
UCF scored three runs in the first innings to cruise to its seventh win. Jonathan Griffin doubled and singled with an RBI and Ronnie Richardson scored two runs. Adkins struck out five while improving to 2-0.
Ian Leisenheimer hit three singles and scored two runs to lead the Black Bears. Joey Martin doubled, singled and scored a run. Eric White doubled.

Women’s basketball

Southern Maine 62, Regis 59

At Gorham, junior Courtney Cochran from Woodland tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds in leading the University of Southern Maine to a 62-59 women’s basketball victory over Regis College in the ECAC Division III New England tournament at Hill Gymnasium.
The Huskies advance to play No. 3 Endicott College in the semifinals at the University of New England in Biddeford Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Erin McNamara scored 11 points for USM. Renee Nicholas had 10 points and Kaylie DeMillo added nine points and six assists.
Stephanie Crawford led Regis with 17 points.

At Beverly, Mass., Daishon Knight hit two free throws with 5.4 seconds left to lift Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield to an overtime win over Northfield Mount Hermon in the NEPSAC AAA quarterfinals at Endicott College.
The Huskies will play Brewster in the semifinals on Friday at 5 p.m. at Endicott.
Omaria Grier hit six 3-pointers and totaled 24 points to pace MCI. Knight scored 20 points and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Khristian Smith scored 15 points and Rafael Maia added 12 points.
Aaron Cosby led NMH with 24 points. John Golden had 19 points, Jvonte Brooks scored 16 points and Evan Cummings added 12 points.
