Maine writer to address the creative life in today’s world

DOVER-FOXCROFT — “Living a Creative Life in Today’s World,” a talk by Maine writer Betsy Connor Bowen, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at the Thompson Free Library. Bowen is a writer of fiction and nonfiction, a videographer, and the author of “Spring Bear,” a 2010 award-winning novella.

Bowen will also read from her work, sign books and speak to students in high school classrooms at Foxcroft Academy, Piscataquis Community Secondary School and Penquis Valley High School on March 15, 16 and 17.

Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten registration scheduled in Dexter

DEXTER — AOS 94 and MSAD 46 will hold pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration for the 2011-12 school year from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Ridge View Community School in Dexter.

Children must be 4 years of age for pre-k and 5 years of age for kindergarten on or before Oct. 15. State-issued birth certificates and immunization records are needed at the time of registration.  For information, call 924-6000.

Brewer Parks and Rec offering golf lessons

BREWER — The Brewer Parks and Recreation Department will hold Tee Time Tune-up golf lessons from noon to 1 p.m. beginning Thursday, March 10, in Brewer. The lessons will run every Thursday for four weeks. The instructor is Mark Hall.

The cost is $30 for residents and $35 for nonresidents. To register, call 989-5199.

Entrepreneurs group offering after-school program in Piscataquis County

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Penquis Young Entrepreneurs’ Society after-school program is being held from 3 to 5:30 p.m every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of the school year at 50 North St. in Dover-Foxcroft.

Piscataquis County students 12-15 years of age will learn entrepreneurship and leadership skills in a range of areas, including business, marketing, financial management and e-commerce.

Brewer Federal Credit Union gives food bank more than $2,000

BREWER — The Brewer Federal Credit Union presented a check in the amount of $2,102.81 to the Good Shepherd Food Bank on Wednesday in Brewer. The money was raised by the credit union through employee dress down days, its annual yard sale and other events throughout the year.

Sebasticook land trust holding wood ducks workshop

STETSON — The Sebasticook Regional Land Trust will host a wood ducks workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 19, at the Stetson Meeting House at the intersection of Village Street (Route 222) and Wolfboro Road.

The morning will begin with an indoor informational session about wood ducks and their habitat needs with Maine Forest Service District Forester Gordon Moore and Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife biologist Keel Kemper. The group will then head out to the the land trust’s Pleasant Lake Preserve to install wood duck nesting boxes built by volunteers.
