ORONO, Maine — Candidates for the Town Council and school committee will participate in a public forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Orono Town Hall, exactly one week before the municipal election.

Five candidates are vying for two three-year terms on the Town Council. Incumbents Geoff Gordon and Cynthia Mehnert will be challenged by Andrew Gavett III, Daniel LaPointe and Kathleen Walton.

For two open seats on board of directors of RSU 26, which includes Orono, Veazie and Glenburn, voters will choose among incumbent Geoffrey Wingard, former school board member James Bird, and Lisa Buck.

Based on the population of each community, Orono has five voting members, Glenburn has four and Veazie has three.

Members of the public will be asked to submit questions for the candidates to answer during Tuesday’s forum.

The municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at the town office. Absentee ballots are available during regular business hours at the town office or by calling 866-2556.
