Inmate found dead in Wiscasset jail cell

The Associated Press

WISCASSET, Maine — Police in Maine say an inmate held on arson charges has died from an apparent suicide at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

A jail official confirms that 21-year-old Robi Saputra of Topsham was found hanging in his jail cell at 2:18 a.m. Monday. Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says state police are investigating, as they do all inmate deaths in the state correctional system.

The Kennebec Journal says Saputra’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta.

Saputra was arrested last August in connection with a fire at the Brunswick Naval Air Station Annex in Topsham. He was also being held on drug charges.
