UMaine softball drops three weekend games

ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Maine softball team dropped all three of its weekend games in Florida.

On Saturday, the University of North Florida beat the Black Bears 5-2 and the University of Central Florida downed them 6-3. On Sunday, University of Michigan shut out UMaine 9-0 in six innings.

In Saturday’s first game, Caroline Torre hit a two-run triple to help spark the Ospreys.

Jennifer Eberhardt hit three singles and drove in two runs for the Black Bears.

In Saturday’s second game, Kellie Todd hit a home run and a double with two RBIs to lead Central Florida.

Jean Stevens paced Maine with two singles and two RBIs. Eberhardt chipped in with home run and a single.

In Sunday’s game, Hilary Payne pitched a two-hit shutout to earn the win for the undefeated Wolverines.

Terren Hall and Eberhardt each hit a single for the Black Bears.

Dallas sweeps Bates

At Irving, Texas, the University of Dallas rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Crusaders completed a sweep of Bates College of Lewiston with a 7-6 win in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.

Dallas won the first game 7-1.

In the opener, Adam Farris hit a grand slam in the third inning to help spark Dallas to victory.

Gordy Webb singled and scored the lone run for Bates.

In the second game, Michael Morrison’s squeeze bunt in the seventh scored the winning run for Dallas.

Noah Lynd hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for Bates. Chris Burke doubled, singled and drove in a run.
