BANGOR — While Fort Fairfield came up short in its 72-70 quarterfinal loss to Jonesport-Beals in Monday’s Eastern Maine Class D boys basketball quarterfinals, the Tigers’ Travis Noyes established a program record for career scoring.

The 6-foot senior swingman scored 26 points during the contest to give him 1,073 for his career, breaking the Fort Fairfield boys mark of 1,061 points set by John Nichols, a 1996 FFHS graduate.

Noyes entered the game needing 15 points to set the mark, and surpassed Nichols with a 3-point shot from the right wing with 51 seconds in the third quarter to draw coach Todd Alley’s club within 48-47.

Noyes is just the third boys basketball player in Fort Fairfield history and fourth player overall to surpass 1,000 career points, along with Nichols, Shawn Manter — who led the Tigers to the 1988 Eastern C championship — and current girls basketball standout Amanda Hotham.

“He can score from the outside or he can come off a screen and go to the hole with lightning speed for his size,” said Jonesport-Beals coach Vincent MacLean Jr., “and he showed us tonight.”
