The Associated Press

PARSONSFIELD, Maine — Authorities say a fire has swept through a house in southern Maine, killing an elderly man who lived alone.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the blaze in Parsonsfield was reported by a neighbor just after 4 p.m., and firefighters discovered the body of 86-year-old Kenneth Crenner inside the house shortly after they arrived.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said the the fire started in the attached garage of the ranch style home on South Road. Fire investigators were due to return Sunday in an attempt to pinpoint how the fire started.

The house was gutted in the fire, which also flattened the garage.
