UMaine softball drops opener

LAFAYETTE, La. — Christina Hamilton tossed a one-hit shutout in leading the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to a 11-0, five-inning softball victory over the University of Maine Friday.
Nerissa Myers hit a triple and three singles, scored three runs and knocked in three runs for the Ragin Cajuns. Christi Orgeron had a double, single two runs and two RBIs. Hamilton struck out eight and walked none through five innings.
Shortstop Jennifer Eberhardt singled to manage the only hit for the Black Bears in their opener.

Women’s hockey

Boston University 2, Maine 0

At Orono, Jenn Wakefield scored two second-period goals in helping Boston University to a shutout over the University of Maine.
Tara Watchorn, Jenelle Kohanchuk, Kaleigh Fratkin and Jillian Kirchner recorded assists for the 24-4-4 Terriers. Kerrin Sperry saved all 21 shots.
Brittany Ott turned away 26 of 28 shots for the 11-15-5 Black Bears.
