PITTSFIELD, Maine — The annual Bud Dow Ski Races at the Pinnacle in Pittsfield are slated for Saturday, Feb. 26.

Pinnacle Ski Club President Jennifer Siter said the races date back to the mid-1950s when the Pinnacle became a ski area geared toward families and local youths learning to ski. Bud Dow was one of the founders.

The race marks one of the only times all year that a slalom course is set up at the facility, which is located on Waverly Street. The ski races usually accompany a cookout.

There is no age limit or skill level, but only members of the Pinnacle Ski Club are eligible to compete. Finishers from first to seventh place receive awards, and children usually wear their race shirts proudly, said Siter.

“It’s always been just a fun day,” said Siter. “Everyone just sort of goofs off and has a good time.”

Memberships for the club cost $20 for an individual, $75 for a family of up to five. Membership includes free ski lessons. For more information visit www.pinnacleskiclub.wordpress.com.
