Maine man accused of trying to abduct girl

The Associated Press

WESTBROOK, Maine — Police say a Maine man is accused of trying to lure a child from a Westbrook school bus stop.

Police received reports this week of a suspicious man approaching a child at a school bus stop in the Bridge Street neighborhood.

Police say an alert resident saw a man entice a young girl to walk away with him and intervened.

Fifty-three-year-old Steven Morrill was arrested on Friday on charges of felony criminal restraint and misdemeanor assault. His criminal background includes a 1993 conviction for sexual abuse of a minor. Police say he also was convicted of arson in 2004 and has been convicted of gross sexual assault.
