BERWICK, Maine — The American Taekwondo Association named Evan Flagg of Berwick, Maine, the 2010 State of Maine Champion boys age 7 and under for traditional forms, sparring and traditional weapons. He trains with the ATA school located in Wells Maine.

Flagg’s goal was to become the state champion in sparring which he did as he scored 21 points for the tournament season. Second place in the state was Gary Moline of Bucksport scoring three points. Flagg was surprised to learn he also claimed the 2010 state champion title in both traditional forms and traditional weapons.

His parents feel that his involvement with the ATA has provided him with better focus, discipline and confidence not only while he is competing but with his school work and everyday life.

Other members of Wells ATA earning state champion titles were Jimmie Baccon, North Berwick, for sparring color belt men ages 30 to 39, Casey Hood, North Berwick, for sparring and traditional weapons 1st degree black belt men ages 17 to 29, and school owner Philip Tucker, North Berwick, for traditional forms, sparring, and traditional weapons 2nd and 3rd degree black belt men ages 30 to 39. Tucker also earned a 7th place ranking in the world for traditional weapons.

2011 looks to be a successful tournament year for the school as there are currently nine school members in the top three state standings for their age and rank.

The ATA is the single largest martial arts organization in North America and is dedicated to the martial arts discipline of Taekwondo. For more information about training at the Wells ATA school location contact Mr. Philip Tucker at 207-205-7095 or stop by the school for a free class Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday at 5:30 p.m.
