Pulp truck rolls over after crash with pickup

BDN staff reports

PITTSFIELD, Maine — No one was injured Wednesday when the driver of a loaded pulp truck that was trying to avoid a collision with another motorist rolled the truck onto its side.

Pittsfield police Sgt. Timothy Roussin said a tractor-trailer driven by Joshua Bowden and owned by Wellman Paving of Winterport was traveling west with a load of pulpwood just before the accident at 2:30 p.m.

A Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Justin Rolfe of Fairfield had turned into a driveway after missing the turn onto Higgins Road. The pickup pulled into the path of the big rig, causing it to swerve out of the way.

“He just barely clipped the pickup,” Roussin said. “There wasn’t much damage.”

The rig swerved onto the shoulder of the road and ended up on its side. Route 2 traffic was detoured around the scene for about three hours as crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles. Roussin said he doesn’t expect any charges to result from the accident.
