Vandals target Bangor church

By Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A vandal or vandals smashed all of the windows in a church van parked at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Ohio Street and the front doors of the church, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Tuesday.

Police are asking those who may have noticed anyone near the church Sunday night to give Officer Jason Stuart a call, Edwards said.

Church officials called police at 7:07 a.m. Monday to report the damage to a 2002 Ford Econoline van.

“Out of the 10 windows, nine were broken out,” Edwards said. The only window that remained intact was the windshield. The van’s doors also were damaged and a tire iron was thrown through the front doors of the church, the sergeant said.

The vandalism is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Those with information about the investigation can call Stuart at the Bangor Police Department, 947-7382, ext. 95761. The department’s anonymous tip line can be reached by pressing ext. 6.
