Wind farm critics meeting in Freeport

The Associated Press

FREEPORT, Maine — More than 100 people are expected to turn out at a summit to coordinate efforts and develop strategies in support of state regulations to more strictly govern wind farms in the state.

Saturday’s daylong event at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport is billed as the Mountaintop Industrial Wind Legislative Summit.

Jonathan Carter, a vocal opponent of industrial wind farms in Maine, said additional oversight of wind farms is needed to protect Mainers’ health and property values and to ensure transparency between wind developers and state and local government officials.

Among other things, participants will hear an overview of proposed legislation regarding wind farms in Maine.

Carter expects 100 to 150 people to attend.
