LEE — Bangor Savings Bank and Mount Jefferson Ski Area will combine to offer free skiing and snowboarding passes to anyone who visits the ski area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 20, a bank official said Friday.

The idea, said Carole Potts, an assistant vice president at the bank, is to say thanks.

“We’re giving back to the community as a thank you and we also like being seen out in the community,” Potts said. “To us it’s fun to part of an event like that. We get meet people and they get to see our faces. It’s nice to be able to do something fun instead of the day to day.”

The bank’s volunteers will offer free desserts, sausages, and, believe it or not, milk-shakes and ice cream.

“We talked about that,” Potts said. “My sister in law, who helps run [the ski area], told us, ‘You wouldn’t believe the milk-shakes we go through here.’ ”

A family-owned and operated business, Mount Jefferson fea-tures a mountain with a 432-foot vertical drop and 11 trails, including a beginner’s slope with a 600-foot handle tow, two 2,000-foot T-bar lifts, ski lessons for individuals or groups, a ski patrol and a full snack bar, ac-cording to skimtjefferson.com.

Last year’s event was good business for the bank and the ski area, Potts said. About 150 free passes were issued and about 250 skiers and snow-boarders were on the mountain during the four-hour event, the bank’s first.

The promotion does not include equipment rentals or les-sons, Potts said.
