A clerk at the Ramada Inn called police early Thursday to report that a 51-year-old Houlton man was in the hotel lobby being disruptive, and after a verbal warning, he was arrested, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

When police arrived the first time, “papers were strewn about the desk and floor and the guy was told to go back to his room,” he said. “He didn’t know where his room was because he was so intoxicated.”

Randy McFarland was escorted to his hotel room by police around 2:55 a.m. and was given a disorderly conduct warning.

“Ten minutes later, dispatch called because he was back in the lobby being disorderly,” Edwards said.

This time, the Odlin Road hotel staff said it wanted him to leave, and police went with him to help him get his belongings and offered to call a cab, the sergeant said.

McFarland refused to leave and was arrested for criminal trespassing and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Thursday morning. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Bangor police charged a Bennettsville, S.C., man with three counts of assault early Thursday after he punched a Brewer woman at Barnaby’s and then pushed two other women who were attempting to help her, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday.

The 23-year-old Brewer woman said Deshane Ocean, 32, punched her in the face while inside the Odlin Road bar just before 1:30 a.m., Edwards said. Police who responded noted that her face was swelling, Edwards said.

Ocean also pushed a 22-year-old Bangor woman and a 22-year-old Newport woman during the scuffle, according to police. He was not arrested. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
