READFIELD, Maine — Investigators from the Maine fire marshal’s office have found a body in the rubble of a house that burned in the town of Readfield.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says the body was found late Wednesday morning as investigators examined the remnants of the two-story home. The body is being taken to Augusta for an autopsy and identification.

McCausland said five people lived in the home, but three of them remained unaccounted for as of Thursday evening.

The fire was reported at 3:30 a.m. The building was engulfed when firefighters arrived. Fire units from six towns responded.
