MACHIAS, Maine — The Down East Community Hospital board of trustees recently announced its election of board leadership for 2011. The board officers are Eric Burke, chair; Cynthia Huggins, vice chair; John Church, treasurer; Greg Campbell, secretary.
Burke lived in the area from 1977 to 1987, during which time he had a solo practice in family medicine. He retired from Knoxville, Tenn., and built his retirement home in Machias.
Huggins has lived in the area for 13 years and now is the president of the University of Maine at Machias.
Church has been a resident of Jonesport for the past 30 years and has served on many boards and committees, including the planning board, board of appeals, budget committee, harbor committee and Peabody Memorial Library board. Church owned a hardware store for 23 years and sold the business in 2008 to Hamilton Marine, where he is the manager.
Campbell has lived in the area for five years. For the past 20 years, Campbell has been involved in the governing and administration of university, volunteer and societal organizations. He is retired from the faculty of Clarkson University.
