ETNA, Maine — A Corinth woman and three Milo residents were arrested Thursday along Interstate 95 in Etna on cocaine and heroin charges.

Jose Vazquez, 24, Phillip Herbest, 24, and Denise Sibert, 32, all of Milo and Emily Spinney, 23, of Corinth were charged with trafficking in cocaine and illegal importation of cocaine.

Sibert also was charged with possessing and trafficking in heroin, Spinney was charged with possessing heroin, and Herbest was charged with being a habitual offender.

The four were stopped Thursday by Maine State Police along the interstate during their return from Massachusetts, according to Stephen McCausland, Maine public safety spokesman.

Herbest was driving Spinney’s car when the stop was made, according to a press release. Drug agents trailed Spinney’s car from the Newport area after receiving information the group had traveled to Massachusetts to purchase drugs. About 3 ounces of cocaine, 16 grams of heroin and 6 grams of crack cocaine were seized, McCausland said in the release.

Spinney is free on bail. Sibert and Herbest made their initial court appearances Monday in Bangor District Court. Herbest, who was boarded at the Piscataquis County Jail, was released Monday night. It is unknown when Vazquez will make his initial court appearance.

Bangor police also assisted in the investigation.
