READFIELD, Maine — Officials are investigating a derailment in central Maine after a train carrying lumber, paper products and scrap went off its tracks.

The Pan Am Railways train with 71 cars was heading to Massachusetts when it derailed at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday in Readfield, west of Augusta.

Railroad officials say about 20 cars left the track. Nobody was hurt.

Police say the train was still off the tracks Sunday, but wasn’t blocking any roads.
