UMPI men edge County rival UMFK

PRESQUE ISLE — Clifford McDonald scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls to a 71-66 men’s basketball victory over the UM-Fort Kent Bengals Friday night.

Kyle Corrigan chipped in with a 11 points and 10 assists for the winners and Patrick Manifold had 11 points.

Manny Odugbela paced UMFK with 28 points and Terence Dockery added 13.

At Brunswick, James Wang scored 19 points, leading five players in double-figures, as Williams beat Bowdoin College to earn its 20th win.

Troy Whittington had 17 points and eight rebounds for Williams.

Will Hanley led Bowdoin with 15 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Ryan O’Connell scored 14 points and Justin Nowell added 11 points.

At Waterville, the Terriers scored 60 second-half points to pull away for the North Atlantic Conference victory over the Spartans.

Jarrad DeVaughn poured in a game-high 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds to propel Thomas. Isiah Brathwaite scored 17 points, 12 from the foul line, and made six steals, Franklin Salvador netted 14 points, Stanley Grenne Jr. added 11 points and Andrew Duncanson finished with 10 points.

Jared Paul scored 21 points to propel Castleton State. Mark Comstock contributed 19 points.

At Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Fort Kent outscored the University of Maine at Presque Isle 39-24 in the second half to grab the win.

Jenn Colpitts had 14 points and five steals in leading the Bengals. Amber Garrison tallied 12 points, six assists and five steals and Taylor Boucher added 11 points.

Emily Pelletier hit five 3-pointers to post 15 points for the Owls. Megan Korhonen had 13 points.

At Waterville, the Spartans shot 55 percent from the floor en route to the North Atlantic Conference victory over the Terriers.

Vanessa Powers and Christine Jaques led a list of six double-figure scorers for Castleton State with 16 points each. Alyssa Leonard tallied 14, points, Kelly Coway scored 13 and Taylor Race and Megan Johnson contributed 10 each.

Karin Bird connected for a game-best 29 points to lead Thomas. Kellie Martel tossed in 20 points, including six 3-pointers.
