Northern Forest Canoe Trail seeking summer interns|

WAITSFIELD, Vt. — The Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Inc. (NFCT) is now accepting applications for its 2011 Summer Internship Program. The non-profit stewards the 740-mile canoe and kayak route traversing lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and portage trails from the Adirondacks to northern Maine. Ten intern positions are available.
Five stewardship interns will rove the four-state trail, and two interns will be stationed in Maine’s Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Stewardship interns spend the summer on the water doing trail projects including improving campsites, river access, and signage. They also lead groups of volunteers on overnight work trips. One intern will be responsible for collecting trail data using GIS and GPS technologies.
A program intern will support NFCT staff at the Waitsfield office during the busiest season, and assist with communications, membership, outreach, publicity, and social media.
Two Youth Program interns will help plan and lead NFCT’s Northern Forest Explorers Youth Program. Interns will work with groups of kids age 10-14 in a program developed to connect rural youth withtheir backyard waterways through outdoor education and recreation.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 740 mile inland paddling trail tracing historic travel routes across New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire, and Maine. NFCT connects people to the Trail’s natural environment, human heritage, and contemporary communities by stewarding, promoting, and providing access to canoe and kayak experiences along this route.  NFCT, Inc was incorporated in 2000 and is a 501(c)3 membership organization.
