Bowdoin men hold off Thomas

BRUNSWICK — Maximilian Staiger sank the go-ahead basket with 12 seconds remaining as Bowdoin College eked out an 84-82 women’s basketball victory over Thomas College Tuesday night.

Will Hanley had 24 points and 17 rebounds for the Polar Bears. Ryan O’Connell also scored 24 points. Justin Nowell tallied 14 points and eight assists and Staiger added 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Jarrad DeVaughn scored a game-high 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Thomas. Andrew Duncanson scored 22 points and Franklin Salvador chipped in 12 points.

Colby 67, Southern Maine 55 (OT)

At Waterville, Colby College held the University of Southern Maine scoreless in overtime as the Mules grabbed their 10th win.

USM’s Otis Smith it two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining to send it into overtime.

Mike Russell scored six of his 21 points in overtime to pace the Mules. Kyle Donovan scored 14 points and Christian Van Loenen netted 10. Russell also tallied 14 rebounds.

Chris Pagentine scored 16 points to lead the Huskies. Otis Smith had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Devin Chambers totaled 11 points.

At Waterville, Colby College had a 40-19 rebounding advantage, forced 25 turnovers and allowed no offensive rebounds for the University of Southern Maine as the Mules earned their 15th win.

Jules Kowalski scored 16 points to pace Colby. Diana Manduca had 11 points and five assists and Rachael Mack grabbed nine rebounds.

Courtney Cochran scored a game-high 17 points for the Huskies.

At Farmington, Ellery Gould led six players in double-figures with 15 points as Bowdoin College of Brunswick routed the University of Maine at Farmington.

Alex Barry tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Polar Bears. Allie Piscina had 13 points, Katie Bergeron had 12 points and Colleen Sweeney and Kaitlin Donahoe both had 10 points.

Kenni Norton paced the Beavers with 11 points.
