The new nutrition guidelines from the U.S. Department of Agriculture were released on Monday, cautioning Americans to eat more produce and whole grains and to cut back on fatty meats, salty snacks and processed foods. Sounds familiar, but Marion Nestle, professor of nutrition, food studies, and public health at New York University, says the 2010 guidelines establish important new priorities to combat the rising tide of obesity.
