BROOKLIN, Maine — The Friend Memorial Public Library’s annual Love Your Library silent auction and valentine sale kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 1, with nearly 200 items up for bid. About half of them will be sold online and the rest at the library.

One of the featured items up for auction this year is a children’s treasure hunt for up to 15 young pirates who will get to search for a chest of treasures on a local beach. The auction also will feature a tour at the home of the late E.B. White and his wife, Katherine, which was the setting for White’s children’s favorite “Charlotte’s Web,” as well as a variety of goods and services including artwork, craft items, classes, sea adventures and local free-range eggs.

Last year’s Love Your Library auction funded nearly 15 percent of the library’s annual budget.

In addition to the silent auction, the library will celebrate the season by creating a handmade valentine for every donation of $5, honoring a person or organization designated by the donor. The valentines will be on display throughout February in the library.

The Love Your Library silent auction Web address is www.biddingforgood.com/friendml. Area residents may visit the library to see auction items and sign up for a Love Your Library valentine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday or from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

For more information, contact the library at 359-2276 or director@friend.lib.me.us.
