Mass. homeless shelter worker fatally stabbed

The Associated Press

LOWELL, Mass. — A resident of a Lowell homeless shelter has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of an employee at the shelter.
Pericles Clergeau was arrested Saturday night in the attack on 34-year-old Jose Roldan of Lowell, who died of a stab wound to the neck.
Authorities say the 19-year-old Clergeau was “in an agitated state” and attacked Roldan, who had tried to calm him down.
The shelter’s interim director, Michelle Meehan, said about 150 people show up for meals at the shelter during the day and no one is checked for weapons then because there are too many people.
However, she says the approximately 60 men and 25 women who sleep at the shelter most nights are searched.
